Create text objects

When you work with text in Microsoft Expression Design documents, it can be helpful to think of each character (or glyph) as an individual closed path, and a word or sentence as a group of all those paths. Each character can have its own fill or stroke attributes. You can position text anywhere in your document, including inside a path (so that the path behaves as a frame for the text) or so that it follows along a path. You can also convert editable text to outlines (Bezier paths), although the text will no longer be editable.

To create text

  1. In the Toolbox, select the Text Cc295071.d724d595-909f-438e-a2af-c4dc7ac7f631(en-us,Expression.40).png tool. In your document, your mouse pointer changes to the add text Cc295071.89ac2b48-cfdc-4aff-98e0-815a9a546534(en-us,Expression.40).gif cursor.

  2. Click anywhere in your document, and then type the text you want.

    Note

If you click a path, your mouse pointer changes to the add text to path Cc295071.d1b3152c-4e7e-41f9-9d37-d9489660f7e4(en-us,Expression.40).gif cursor to indicate that the text you type will follow the path.

Press ENTER to break to a new line.

  3. To leave the current text object, click anywhere in your document, or press ESC.

Note

You can also paste text into Expression Design, but you cannot paste more than 10,000 characters.

Each block of text acts as a separate object on your page, which you can move, rotate, transform, apply effects to, and so on, just like any other graphic shape.
