Use the thesaurus

Microsoft Expression Web provides a thesaurus you can use to look up the synonyms of a word or phrase and replace your text. If the thesaurus doesn't find the text that you specified, it provides a list of words that start with one or more of the same characters.

Look up words in the thesaurus

  1. In Design view or Code view, in your web page, select one or more words that you want to look up in the thesaurus.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Thesaurus.

  3. In the Thesaurus dialog box, if the selected text was found, the first box is labeled Looked Up, and the box below it is labeled Meanings. If the selected text wasn't found, the first box is labeled Not Found, and the box below it is labeled Alphabetical List.

  4. If you want to look up synonyms for a word that appears under Meanings or Alphabetical List instead of the word that appears under Looked Up or Not Found, under Meanings or Alphabetical List select the word you want and click Look Up. To return to the previous list, click Previous.

  5. To replace the selected text in your page with a synonym, do one of the following.

    • Under Replace with Synonym, select the word you want.

    • Under Alphabetical List, select the word you want.

  6. Click Replace.
