Add text in a path

Any path or shape can act as a frame or box in which you can add text. This is referred to as area text.

To add text to a frame

• Do one of the following:

  • **Click in the frame **  Position the Text  tool inside a shape, and press SHIFT when you click. When you hold down the SHIFT key and position the pointer over the shape, the pointer icon changes to indicate the text will go inside the path . Note that if the path has no fill color, when you press SHIFT, you must click the path itself (instead of inside the path).

  • Attach text to the frame   If you have already created text that you'd like to position inside a shape or path, select the text and the path and, on the Object menu, point to Texton Path****, and then click Attach Area Text.

If your line of text is longer than the shape is wide, Expression Design automatically wraps the lines of text to fit into the box. However, if the last line of text in a frame is too wide, Expression Design lets it extend outside the box instead of clipping it off.

To release text from a frame

1. In the Toolbox, select the Text tool, and click the text in the frame.

2. Do one of the following:

   • On the Object menu, point to Text on Path, and then click Release Text.

   • In the Toolbox, select either the Selection  or Group Select  tool, select the text, and then, on the Edit menu, click Cut or Delete, or press the DELETE or BACKSPACE keys.

Note that if you cut or copy the text to the Clipboard and then paste it elsewhere, the text will be converted to paths.
