When comparing digests, the client compares the new password digest first. If this comparison fails, the client compares the old password digest. If that comparison also fails, the digests do not match. The client SHOULD be prepared to handle ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED, if the server determines that the client does not have appropriate privileges.
