The client action for connectionless NTLM authentication is similar to that of connection-oriented authentication (section 3.1.5.1). However, the first message sent in connectionless authentication is the CHALLENGE_MESSAGE (section 2.2.1.2) from the server to the client; there is no client-initiated NEGOTIATE_MESSAGE (section 2.2.1.1) as in the connection-oriented authentication.
