1.4 Relationship to Other Protocols

This protocol depends on the Group Policy: Core Protocol (as specified in [MS-GPOL]) to provide a list of applicable Group Policy Objects (GPOs). It also transmits Group Policy settings and instructions between the client and the Group Policy server by reading and writing files using remote file access. See [MS-WPO] section 6.4 for an overview of remote file access.

This protocol is used instead of the Windows Remote Registry Protocol, specified in [MS-RRP], to configure the same settings on many computers.

The following diagram shows how this protocol relates to other protocols.
