1.5 Prerequisites/Preconditions

The Digest Protocol Extensions assumes the following:

1. Prior to the start of digest authentication, the client and the server have access to the user's password (shared knowledge between them).

2. On the server and the client, a source of cryptographically useful random numbers is available for generating a nonce.
