1.3.2 Management Server Role

The Management Server role is generally performed by specialized middleware software programs to provide transaction monitoring and transaction manager configuration services to applications. The transaction manager exemplifies such a program.

The Management Server role is typically responsible for the following tasks:

  • Providing applications and other participants with access to services that allow the reading and setting of transaction manager configuration settings. Configuration settings fall into the following categories:

    • Functionality settings: These configuration settings enable and disable the availability of specific transaction manager roles.

    • Security settings: These configuration settings enable and disable access to and from security-related restrictions on transactional services.

    • transaction manager endpoint settings: These settings describe the endpoints provided by the transaction manager.

  • Providing applications with mechanisms to query the state of and to control the life cycle of the transaction manager service.

  • Providing applications with subscription services to transaction monitoring information.
