Chapter 7 Processing Far Eastern Writing Systems

As you learned in Chapter 3, the first step in modifying an application for Far East versions of Microsoft Windows—the Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean editions—is to enable your code to handle the input, editing, and display of ideographic characters, particularly double-byte characters. Once your code can accommodate Far Eastern characters, the next steps involve adding support so that your application correctly processes Far Eastern text. This chapter discusses techniques for enhancing the functionality of Far East editions. Figure 7-1 in the next section summarizes the steps for creating Far East editions of your Windows application.
