Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 supports multiple organizations, also known as multi-tenancy. The Web services support this and provide access to data for different organizations while maintaining the security and privacy of each organization. In earlier versions, there was a single Web Services Description Language (WSDL) for the server that supported the single organization. In Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, a WSDL is generated for each organization that includes only the entities and messages for that organization.

When an organization is created by using the Deployment Manager, a URL is created for the organization. For Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, this URL may change because of load balancing on the servers. The CrmDiscoveryService Web service is used to discover the URL for your organization given the organization name. This service works with Windows Live ID (formerly Passport) authentication for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Active Directory authentication for an on-premise installation, and Web form authentication for Internet-facing deployments (IFD).
