Enabling Duplicate Detection

Before you can run duplicate detection, you have to enable it as follows:

  • Globally (for all entities in the organization).
  • For an entity.
  • For specific operations.

Note    Duplicate detection has to be enabled in all three areas to enable duplicate detection for an entity and for operations on an entity.

Enable duplicate detection globally

To enable duplicate detection globally, use the Update message to set the organization.isduplicatedetectionenabled property to true.

Enable duplicate detection for an entity

To enable duplicate detection for an entity, use the UpdateEntity message to set the EntityMetadata.DuplicateDetection property to true.

Enable duplicate detection for specific operations

Set the following properties to true to enable duplicate detection during the specified operations.

Note    You do not have to publish the duplicate detection rules to enable these operations. However, you must publish the duplicate detection rules before you perform the operations.
