Edit and Continue

Edit and Continue applies to C/C++ programs only.

Edit and Continue enables you to change your source code while your program is in break mode (with some limitations) and apply those changes without having to end the debug session and build your program again.

With Edit and Continue, you can see the effect of changes during the current debugging session, instead of restarting the program and trying to recreate the current conditions. When you install Visual Studio, Edit and Continue is turned on by default.

For information on the limitations of Edit and Continue with Visual Basic and Visual C#, see Limitations of Edit and Continue.
