How to: Configure SQL Server Integration Services Package for Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) extracts a subset of the data from one database and loads it to another database. The mobile application uses SSIS to extract data from specific tables and fields in the Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 database and map this data to tables and fields in the mobile staging database.

You can remove unnecessary tables and fields by modifying the SSIS package. Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services must be installed to perform any modifications to the SSIS package.

Use the following procedures to install and execute the sample SSIS package that is provided with Mobile Sales. This will update the mobile staging database for mobile devices.

To prepare to install the Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Package

  1. Check the Installation Requirements section and ensure that all the required components are available.

  2. Ensure that image files in Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 are located in the Microsoft Dynamics AX database to properly display pictures and images on the mobile application.

  3. To set up the database location for the image files in Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 do the following steps:

    1. Open Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0, go to the Basic menu.

    2. Click Setup, Document management, Document types.

    3. Select the type File and go to the General tab.

    4. In the Setup section, set File Location to Database.

  4. Ensure that the mobile staging database is created. For details see How to: Create the Mobile Staging Database, Database Objects, and the Mobile Staging Publication for Mobile Sales.

For details on setup and replication of the mobile staging database, see Configuring the Mobile Staging Database and SQL Mobile Replication.

  5. Ensure that Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 has been updated with the necessary tables. For more information, see Installing Microsoft Dynamics AX Integration.

To install the SSIS package

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Folder Overview.

This opens the folder to which you installed. The default installation path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics Mobile\Mobile Sales\Server\Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 SP1\SQL-Server Integration Services Package.

  2. Copy the following files from the SQL-Server Integration Services Package folder to the server or computer that will run the SSIS package:

    • Mobile Sales-AX4-Package.dtsx

Required for Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0).

    • Mobile Sales-AX.dtsConfig

Required if you use a Microsoft Dynamics AX company account other than DMO.

Configuring the Microsoft Dynamics AX Company Account

The SSIS package extracts data from a specific company account in Microsoft Dynamics AX. The Microsoft Dynamics AX company account is defined in the SSIS configuration file called Mobile Sales-AX.dtsConfig.

By default, the Mobile Sales-AX.dtsConfig file is set to the company account called DMO. If this is the account that you choose to use, no additional configuration is required and you can ignore the following procedure.

The file must be set up to run the SSIS package. For details on running the SSIS package see How to: Run the SSIS Package to Update the Mobile Staging Database.

To change the company account in the Mobile Sales-AX.dtsConfig file

  1. Open the Mobile Sales-AX dtsConfig file in your preferred text editor.

  2. In the <ConfiguredValue>DMO</ConfiguredValue> element (marked in bold text), change the company account name from DMO to the company account that you are using.
