Axis Properties Dialog Box, Labels

By default, the chart automatically generates and places labels on an axis.

Select Labels on the Axis Properties dialog box to define options for font size, position, rotation, and text wrapping. For more information on how to use these properties and how to further customize the axis labels, see Formatting Axis Labels on a Chart. This dialog is not available if you specify your own label intervals. For more information, see How to: Specify an Axis Interval.

Options

  • Hide axis labels
Hide all labels from display on an axis.

  • Hide first and last labels along this axis
Hide the end labels on an axis. In some scenarios, the end labels are not as important to be shown on the axis scale. This option is useful for displaying a cleaner chart image that contains fewer labels.

  • Enable auto-fit
Select this option to enable a best-fit labeling algorithm that automatically calculates font size, position, rotation, and text wrapping.

  • Font can be increased up to
Select the maximum font size that the chart can use when calculating how to optimally fit the axis labels.

  • Font can be decreased to
Select the minimum font size that the chart can use when calculating how to best fit the axis labels.

  • Labels can be offset
Select whether the chart labels can be offset. Offset labels can be rendered in alternating rows on an axis to improve readability.

  • Labels can be rotated
Select the maximum rotation in degrees, clockwise, that the chart can use when calculating how to best fit the axis labels.

  • Labels can be wrapped
Select this option to allow text wrapping when the chart calculates how to best fit the axis labels.

  • Disable auto-fit
Select this option to specify your own font size, position, rotation, and text wrapping options when the chart calculates label intervals.

  • Label rotation angle
Type a value that represents the angle of rotation to apply to all labels when the chart automatically calculates intervals.
