How to: Install or Remove a Language Pack

Speech Server language packs install language resources that support the development and deployment of applications in a particular language. Because the Speech Server installer does not install support for any language by default, you must install at least one language pack to develop and deploy speech applications.
All Speech Server language packs support DTMF recognition and text-to-speech synthesis (TTS). Not all language packs support speech recognition. The following table lists the available language packs, according to whether they support speech recognition.
|Language Packs that Support Speech Recognition||Language Packs that Do Not Support Speech Recognition|
Install language packs after you install Speech Server and on developer computers on which Speech Server is installed to enable development of language-specific Speech Server applications. After you install a language pack that supports speech recognition on a development computer, you can use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 to select the language engine and make modifications to the phonemes, enabling speech recognition and text-to-speech (TTS) emulation with the new language's model and voices.
Install language packs on production servers on which Speech Server is installed to enable deployment of language-specific Speech Server applications. After you install a language pack on a production server, you can create engine configurations that use the new language and specify a language or voice for a particular application. You must install the language pack that corresponds to an application's language on every server that hosts the application.
|Because each installed language pack uses system memory, you should only install language packs that you intend to use.|
When you run the Speech Server Setup Wizard and choose to install language packs, the Speech Server Setup Wizard detects which products are installed on the computer, displays a list of the language support files that will be installed, and installs the files. Depending on your Speech Server configuration and the language packs you choose to install, the Speech Server Setup Wizard can install any of the following files on each computer:
Speech recognition and TTS engine resources
Language support files for Speech Server
Language-specific documentation for Speech Server
Language support files for the ASP.NET Speech Controls
|When a language pack is installed, the default engine configurations for that language are created dynamically.|
Insert the Speech Server DVD into the DVD drive.
The Speech Server Setup Wizard starts automatically.
Click Install Speech Server, click Install Language Packs, and then click Next.
Click Install from DVD, and then click the name of the language pack you want to install.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
The Speech Server Setup Wizard detects which Speech Server components are installed on the computer and installs language support accordingly.
Click Finish to complete the installation.
When you remove a language pack, all language engines, language support files, and applicable registry keys are removed and all user interface text reverts to the default language of the operating system English (United States).
Repair a faulty language pack installation using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
|Repairing a language pack installation reinstalls all language engines, language support files, and applicable registry keys.|
