Create or delete a model association

A model association defines the relationship between a source and destination model that is mapped in Planning Business Modeler. After the model dimensions and members are mapped, you can run a Data Movement job to move fact data based on the association.

To create a new association

  1. In the Site Browser pane, select Associations. Then, in the Association Tasks pane, click Create a New Association.

This displays the Create New Association dialog box.

  2. In the Name box, enter a name for the new association. Names do not have to be unique, but they are restricted to 128 characters.

  3. In the Label box, enter a label for the new association. The label cannot exceed 40 characters, and must be unique. For information about label restrictions, see the topic About names and labels.

    Note

When you save an association with a duplicate label, Planning Business Modeler issues a message that suggests changing the label. To change the duplicate label, enter a new label in the appropriate text box, and then click Save.

  4. (Optional) In the Description box, enter a description of this new association. The description can be up to 512 characters long.

  5. In the Aggregation Function list, select one of the following aggregation types.

    • Total Returns a total of the numeric values in a set.

    • Average Calculates an average of the set of numbers.

    • Maximum Returns the highest value from a set.

    • Minimum Returns the lowest value from a set.

  6. From the Source Model Site list, select the source model site.

  7. From the Source Model list, select the model.

By default, Planning Business Modeler displays the model site in which the user is currently working.

  8. From the Destination Model Site list, select the destination model site.

  9. From the Destination Model list, select the destination model.

  10. Click OK to create the new association.

Planning Business Modeler creates the model association, and displays the Association Summary workspace. To complete the association, you must scope or map dimensions and members.

To delete an association

  1. In the Workspace Browser pane, select Associations.

  2. From the list of associations, open the association by clicking its name.

  3. In the Association Tasks pane, click Delete Association. A warning appears, which asks if you want to remove all related dimension and member associations.

  4. From the File menu, select Save Model Site.

You can now re-use the association label without error.

  5. Click Yes.
