Speech Server 2007

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

Before installing Speech Server, remove all other versions of Speech Server and verify that your computer meets all software prerequisites. For more information, see Speech Server Requirements.

  • To minimize disruptions of service, disconnect the computer from the production environment before installing Speech Server.
  • Do not enable the %ProgramFiles% and C:\inetpub\wwwroot folders, because this can result in an improper installation. For more information, see the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 documentation.
  • Installing Speech Server restarts the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service. For more information about the WMI service, see WMI Scripting Overview.
  • Speech Server sets permission levels on the computers where it is installed. When Speech Server is installed on a computer running Windows Server 2003, only administrators (not users or guests) are able to log on interactively. However, when Speech Server is installed on a computer running Windows XP or Windows Vista, users in both the Admin group and the Interactive Users group are allowed to log on interactively. For more information, see Logon Permissions for the Computer Running Speech Server.

You must install Speech Server on every computer in your deployment.

  1. Insert the Speech Server?? DVD.

    The Setup program starts automatically.

If Setup does not start automatically or you are installing Speech Server from a network location, open Windows Explorer, browse to the drive location of Speech Server, and then double-click Setup.exe.

  2. Click Install Speech Server.

    The product key is disabled.

  3. Click Next.

  4. Read and accept the End-User License Agreement, and then click Next.

The Setup program scans your computer for prerequisite software and enables the eligible components in the Available Components list.

  5. Select the components you want to install, and then click Next.

If you want to install a component that your computer is not eligible for, highlight the component and determine from the description why it is blocked. Click Cancel, install the prerequisites, and then return to step 1.

The selected components are installed on your computer. When the component installation is finished, the Setup program displays the Installation Complete page.

The Speech Server service does not start unless a language pack is installed. If you already have a language pack installed, go to step 7.

  6. If you need to install a language pack, click Install from DVD or Install from Web on the Installation Complete page, and then click one of the following links:

    • Install from DVD - Installs a language pack from the installation DVD. Open the folder of the language you want to install, and then double-click a Windows Installer file to install the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the language pack.
    • Install from Web - Downloads and installs an Speech Server language pack from the Speech Server Downloads page.
  7. Click Finish to close the Setup program.
