To facilitate the monitoring of tasks, Speech Server generates event and performance data that works with other Windows monitoring tools and systems, such as Event Viewer, Performance console, and Microsoft Operations Manager.

Use the following tools to monitor Speech Server performance:

  • Event Viewer ??? Use this Windows administration tool to monitor events raised by Speech Server about process activities, warnings, and errors.
  • System Monitor ??? Use this Windows administration tool, which is part of the Performance console, to view current counter activity or logged counter data. You can also use System Monitor to export the data to spreadsheet programs or databases for analysis and report generation.
  • Performance Logs and Alerts ??? Use this Windows administration tool, which is part of the Performance console, to set up counter logs that collect performance data automatically from local or remote computers.
  • Task Manager ??? Use this Windows administration tool to view and assess the impact of running programs and processes on the computer running Speech Server.
  • Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 ??? Use this system, which is a separately licensed software package from Microsoft, to monitor Speech Server performance, events, and other activities within a comprehensive monitoring framework. Microsoft provides a MOM Management Pack specifically for Speech Server that includes key knowledge to help you identify issues and trace the root causes of problems on computers running Speech Server. For more information about MOM, see Microsoft Operations Manager Home.
  • OCSTracer ??? Use this tool to to start and stop trace sessions for Microsoft?? Office Communications Server 2007 components. The tool can also be used to format the raw contents of a log file (an .ETL file) into human-readable text. For more information, see OCSTracer.
