Windows SharePoint Services Support in BizTalk Server

BizTalk Server supports the use of Windows SharePoint Services with the Windows SharePoint Services Adapter web service as follows:

Windows SharePoint Services version Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) adapter web service support

Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 SP2

Yes

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

  • Yes

  • Side-by-side installation of both Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 SP2 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 is supported. In this scenario, the WSS adapter supports the use of either WSS 2.0 SP2 or WSS 3.0 at a given time.

Installing the Windows SharePoint Services Adapter Web Service

The Windows SharePoint Service (WSS) Adapter Web service is installed on the WSS server(s). The adapter communicates with this web service to do all of its work on the WSS server.

Selecting the WSS Adapter Web Service component during BizTalk Server setup installs the necessary software for the WSS adapter to process incoming and outgoing documents through Windows SharePoint Services. This Web service must be installed on the server where Windows SharePoint Services is installed.

The adapter Web service can handle multiple SharePoint sites regardless of whether they are on the same IIS site or on different IIS sites

Using BizTalk Server with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS)

The BizTalk Server Windows SharePoint Services Adapter web service can be installed and configured on a web site that has been extended as a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) web application. The BizTalk Server Windows SharePoint Services Adapter can also connect to a web site that has been extended as a MOSS web application. When connecting to a web site that has been extended as a MOSS web application, the BizTalk Server WSS adapter provides the same level of functionality that is available when connecting to a WSS 3.0 web site. For more information about functionality provided with the BizTalk Server WSS adapter when connecting to a WSS 3.0 web site, see Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Support.

Upgrading Windows SharePoint Services from WSS 2.0 SP2 to WSS 3.0 and MOSS

To upgrade Windows SharePoint Services on a computer that has the Windows SharePoint Services Adapter Web Service component installed, follow these steps:

  1. Run the BizTalk Server 2009 configuration tool and unconfigure the SharePoint Adapter component.

  2. Run the BizTalk Server 2009 installation wizard and uninstall the Windows SharePoint Services Adapter Web Service component (available under Additional Software in the installation wizard).

  3. Upgrade Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 SP2 to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 can be downloaded from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=77800. There are separate installation packages for 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) Windows editions.

    noteNote
If you uninstall Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 SP2 prior to installing Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, ensure that you also uninstall the Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Language Template Pack if it is installed. If you do not uninstall the Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Language Template Pack in this particular scenario, it will prevent you from installing the Windows SharePoint Services Adapter Web Service component.

  4. Upgrade Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 to Microsoft Office SharePoint Services 2007 (optional).

  5. Configure Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (or MOSS) and extend a web site.

  6. If you are upgrading BizTalk Server 2009 from an earlier build, run the BizTalk Server 2009 installation wizard from the later build to upgrade BizTalk Server 2009 at this time.

  7. Run the BizTalk Server 2009 installation wizard and install the Windows SharePoint Services Adapter Web Service component.

  8. Run the BizTalk Server 2009 configuration tool and configure the SharePoint Adapter component. If you have installed Windows SharePoint Services in side-by-side mode then make sure that you select the web site that has been extended with WSS 3.0 (or MOSS) when selecting the Windows SharePoint Services Adapter Web Site option.
