Compatible Icons

Windows Mobile 6.5
4/19/2010

Windows Mobile devices use different icon sizes than that of desktop computers. In addition, the Windows Mobile devices support screens with various resolutions. Therefore, your application should contain icons designed for all supported resolutions. Windows Mobile stretches or compresses icons to fit the resolution of the screen. However, this frequently results in aliasing. The following illustration shows a correctly sized icon and a stretched icon.

The icon file type supports the inclusion of multiple icon resolutions in a single icon file, so you can provide icons that support multiple screen resolutions without the overhead of multiple icon files.

The following table lists the icon sizes for each supported screen size of devices that are powered by Windows Mobile Professional orWindows Mobile Classic. In the table, resolution is measured in dots per inch (DPI), and icon sizes are measured in pixels.
