Resources for Creating a Game Using DirectX
To create the best desktop games, use Visual C++ and DirectX together.
Visual C++ is included in all editions of Visual Studio 2012. To create a desktop game, you can use the free Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Desktop, or you can buy Visual Studio Professional 2012 or one of the other Visual Studio 2012 editions.
For Windows 8, DirectX is included in the Windows SDK. You don't have to download anything extra. For more information, see Where is the DirectX SDK?.
To create DirectX apps for Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP, you have to download the stand-alone DirectX SDK.
