Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 provides a powerful platform that enables users to send messages by using a variety of technologies, including the following:

  • Exchange Web Services
  • WebDAV
  • The Exchange store OLE DB provider
  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) 
  • Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP)
  • Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP)
  • MAPI

Users receive messages in their private mailbox folders in the Exchange store, which you can access by using WebDAV, Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3), IMAP, and MAPI.
