1 Introduction

This specification describes the Rights Management Services (RMS): Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Extension Protocol which is used to communicate information between applications and RMS servers directly without using the RMS client. The RMS: ISV Extension Protocol facilitates the creation of applications that either extend the capabilities of RMS-enabled applications and/or bridge the capabilities of different software systems, by allowing for direct communication between applications and RMS servers without the use of the RMS client. This protocol enables applications to decommission protected content and retrieve a recipient's public key certificate.

Sections 1.5, 1.8, 1.9, 2, and 3 of this specification are normative. All other sections and examples in this specification are informative.
