An ORB is a conceptual service that enables local or remote clients to instantiate, and to invoke software operations on, software components (sometimes known as objects). Examples of ORBs include a DCOM server [MS-DCOM], a COM+ server [MS-COM], and a CORBA/IIOP ORB [CORBA].
