Test Values for AdUnitId and ApplicationId

Test Values for AdUnitId and ApplicationId

Updated: March 24, 2014

Published: April 2, 2014

Test values for the ApplicationId and AdUnitId properties must be used during development. This allows the developer to see how the app is receiving and rendering advertisements. This testing also allows the developer to determine how ad integration will work in the app.

The size of ads delivered to the app by the Microsoft ad servers are defined in Microsoft pubCenter. For best results, make sure that the AdUnit or DrawableAd size in your code matches the ad-unit size specified in pubCenter.

System_CLiX_warning Warning

Live ads are not available in the emulator. You must use test values for the ApplicationId and AdUnitId when running in the emulator.

If the ApplicationId is NOT set to the value test_client when the app is running in the emulator, the app will throw an error. The error message will tell you that “you cannot use pubCenter IDs for testing from the emulator. If you want to test with these IDs, please deploy your application to a device. Otherwise, please change your ApplicationId to test_client, and AdUnitId to one of the supported ad types as outlined in the documentation.”

To verify live ads you must:

  • Use live ApplicationId and AdUnitId numbers -- provided by pubCenter -- in your code.

  • Run the app on a device -- not the emulator.
