How to: Profile Applications Remotely

After setting up permissions as described in How to: Set Profiling Permissions, administrators might want to grant additional privileges for using the profiler remotely. To grant additional privileges, they must follow the steps in "To set up remote access" later in this document.

Important

This procedure applies to Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. If remote access is not set up using these steps, users can still connect to remote computers using c:\>mstsc -console command. This will allow additional privileges that are needed to profile applications remotely.

To set up remote access

  1. Open the Local Security Policy tool on the server.

  2. Expand Local Policies node.

  3. Select User Rights Assignment in the left pane.

  4. Right-click Create global objects in the right pane, and then choose Properties.

  5. In the Create global objects Properties dialog box, click Add User or Group to add a new user.

After completing this step, users can run the profiler remotely by creating connections to terminal servers or other remote computers.
