Using SQL Server Mobile Edition and SQL Server Compact Edition Databases

This topic is new for Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

Visual Studio 2005 includes SQL Server Mobile edition which developers of Smart Devices could use when creating database applications. Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 enables developers to use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition, a new version that also includes features for desktop developers. For smart device developers, SQL Server Compact Edition and SQL Server Mobile Edition provide the same set of features.

However, in order to take advantage of the rich design time data features in Visual Studio Service Pack 1 you must write your data application using SQL Server Compact Edition 3.1 and .NET Compact Framework 2.0. You must install both Visual Studio SP1 and SQL Server Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 SP1. For more information see, How to: Install Sample Databases

The following table links to information that enables you to use the Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE) to effectively interact with databases.
