IMediaSeeking::SetRate

Windows Mobile 6.5
A version of this page is also available for
4/8/2010

This method sets a new playback rate.

HRESULT SetRate(
  double dRate
);

dRate

[in] The playback rate, which must not be zero.

Returns an HRESULT value that depends on the implementation of the interface.

The default DirectShow implementation returns S_OK for success, E_INVALIDARG if the parameter is invalid, or E_NOTIMPL if the method is not implemented.

The playback rate dRate is expressed as a ratio of the normal speed. Thus, 1.0 is normal playback speed, 0.5 is half speed, and 2.0 is twice speed. For audio streams, changing the rate also changes the pitch.

Negative values of dRate indicate reverse playback. If the filter supports reverse playback, it should return AM_SEEKING_CanPlayBackwards from IMediaSeeking::GetCapabilities. If a filter does not return AM_SEEKING_CanPlayBackwards, a negative rate will cause SetRate to fail with a return value of E_INVALIDARG.
