Add Web Part Pages to Web Sites by Using the Application Object Tree

Dynamics AX 4.0

Add a Web part page to multiple Web sites by deploying a page definition from the Application Object Tree (AOT). The Microsoft Dynamics AX administrator can choose any listed Web site as the target for the deployment.

A Web page already present on any listed Web site can be imported into the AOT. After the Web page is imported, the page definition can be deployed to other Web sites, one Web site at a time. Web part pages are often deployed to Enterprise Portal Web sites, though any Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Web site can be targeted.

Newly created Web sites contain all the page definitions in the AOT. For information about creating a Web site, see Create an Enterprise Portal Site.

  1. In the AOT, expand the Web node, expand the Web Menu Items node, and then expand the URLs node.

  2. Right-click the URLs node, and select New URL.

  3. Right-click the newly created URL, and then select Properties. In the property sheet, enter a name for the URL item.

  4. In the property sheet, click the URL property, and then click the ellipse to view Browse for Page window. It lists the Web part pages that are available from Enterprise Portal.

  5. In the Browse for Page window, expand the Enterprise Portal node, select any page listed, and then click OK to close the window.

  6. In the AOT, right-click the URL item, and then select Import Page. This imports the page indicated in the URL property from Enterprise Portal into the AOT.

A message is displayed when the page definition is successfully imported. A successful import automatically adds the page to the AOT. To see the added page, expand the Web node, expand the Web Files node, and then expand the Page Definitions node.

For more information, see Create Web Menu Items for Web Part Pages.

  7. To modify the page definition, do the following:

    1. Expand the Web node, expand the Web Files node, and then expand the Page Definitions node.

    2. Right-click the page definition, and then click Properties.

    3. Set property values as appropriate. For example, to modify the page title, use the PageTitle property.

    4. Right-click the page definition, and then click Save.

Any page definition listed in the AOT can be deployed to an Enterprise Portal Web site. The following steps explain how to choose from a list of Enterprise Portal Web sites, and then how to deploy a page definition to that Enterprise Portal.

  1. In the Navigation Pane, click Administration, expand the Setup node, expand Internet node, and then expand the Enterprise Portal node.

  2. Under Enterprise Portal, open the Web sites form. Click the combo box that shows the site that the AOT is currently pointed to, and select any site you prefer.

  3. In the AOT, expand the Web node, expand the Web Files node, and then expand the Page Definitions node.

  4. Right-click the page definition, and then click Deploy Page.

A message is displayed when the page is successfully deployed.

Browse the Enterprise Portal Web site to see the deployed page.
