Application Root Configuration Failure Dialog Box

Visual Studio .NET 2003

During the creation of a Web project, the project could not be marked as an Internet Information Services (IIS) application root.

Web projects may not operate correctly without an application root.

You can manually configure the application root using IIS.

To prevent this message when creating projects:

  • Install FrontPage Server Extensions on the Web server.
  • Install IIS on the local computer.

This message can also occur when the Web server is running IIS version 5.0 or later and the client machine is running IIS 4.0, for example, on Windows NT version 4.0.

To repair a project that yielded this error message when it was created, manually configure the application root using IIS.
