Metabase Structure
Internet Information Services (IIS) stores the metabase configuration and schema in plain-text, Extensible Markup Language (XML)-formatted files, unlike previous versions of IIS that used a single binary file. The advantage of using XML-formatted files is that they are readable with common editing tools, such as Microsoft Notepad. This section describes the purpose and structure of the metabase configuration and schema files, as well as metabase property inheritance.
This section includes the following topics:
- Metabase Configuration File: Describes the hierarchical structure of the MetaBase.xml file.
- Metabase Schema: Explains the function of the metabase schema and the structure of MBSchema.xml.
- Property Inheritance: Explains how properties are inherited from higher-level metabase keys.
