Change the default template
Whenever you open a new MapPoint map, it is based on a default template (New North American Map.ptt) with specific settings. If you want to change these settings, you can do so by changing this default template. For example, you can change the default template so that it shows the Route Planner pane, is zoomed into a specific map area, and is set to the political map style each time that you open a new map.
Create a new map or modify an existing map with the features you'd like to see whenever you open a new map.
On the File menu, click Save As.
Click the arrow next to the Save as type box, and then choose Map Template from the list.
In the Save in box, browse to Program Files\Microsoft MapPoint \Templates, and click New North American Map.ptt.
Click Save.
When prompted about replacing New North American Map.ptt, click Yes.
Your map replaces the MapPoint default template.
To recover the default template
Locate the MapPoint default template by searching for New North American Map.ptt in Windows Explorer.
Click New North American Map.ptt, and on the File menu, click Delete.
When prompted about sending New North American Map.ptt to the Recycle Bin, click Yes.
Open MapPoint.
The MapPoint default template is recovered.
