Troubleshoot printing

Check your printer setup in other Windows-based programs.

If you have difficulty printing from MapPoint, first check to see if you can print a document from another program such as Microsoft Word.

Check your Microsoft MapPoint printer settings.

If you are able to print a document from another program, make sure that the printer you are trying to use is identified in the MapPoint Print dialog box. On the File menu, click Print. Under Printer, in the Name box, select the applicable printer name.

Change the map quality setting to Normal or Draft.

How?

If you are unable to print from any program, refer to the print troubleshooter in Windows Help to help you determine and solve the problem. To refer to Windows Help, click the Start button, and then click Help.

Note  If you've tried these solutions but are still unable to print, refer to your printer documentation for more information.

If your printer is configured to print in Landscape orientation, change this setting to Portrait orientation.

If you are printing your driving directions on paper that is more than 11 inches wide, switch to standard letter-sized paper (8 1/2 x 11 inches) and print the map in Portrait orientation.

For best results, your printer should have at least 1 megabyte (MB) of memory.

If you are using a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may be able to work around this issue by reducing the print quality.

How?

In order to preserve map proportions, MapPoint by default prints only the area of the map that is visible on the computer screen. As a result, the printed map may not fill the entire page.

When printing the current map view, you can print a full-page map. Open the Print dialog box from the File menu, and then select Current map view and Extend view to fit page. The printed area of a full-page map extends the current map view to include as much of the map as fits on the page.

Or, resize the MapPoint window so that the map area is about twice as tall as it is wide; then print the map in Portrait orientation.
