Command Window

Visual Studio .NET 2003

The Command window is used to either issue commands or to debug and evaluate expressions in the integrated development environment (IDE). To view the Command window, press CTRL+ALT+A, or click Command Window on the Other Windows submenu of the View menu.

The Command window has two different modes, Command and Immediate.

  • Command Mode is used for executing Visual Studio Commands directly in the Visual Studio .NET environment, bypassing the menu system, or for executing commands that do not appear in any menu.
  • Immediate Mode is used for debugging purposes, evaluating expressions, executing statements, printing variable values, and so forth. Use Immediate mode to view and change the value of variables when you debug applications, execute functions and statements, and so forth.
