Specifying a Preferred Help Collection

Visual Studio .NET 2003

A Help collection is a set of Help topics. By default, the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET help system uses the "Visual Studio .NET 2003 Combined Help Collection" (VSCC). You can select which Help collection is used by the program.

To choose a Preferred Collection

  1. In Visual Studio .NET, choose the Tools menu, and then select Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, select Help under the Environment folder.
  3. The Preferred Collection dropdown menu displays the available Help collections.
Caution   To retain access to all of your Visual Studio Help, select the default VSCC Help collection.

Instead of changing to a non-default Preferred Collection, consider using filters to focus searches on Help topics related to your needs. For more information, see Customizing Dynamic Help.

If you change the Preferred Collection, you must close and restart Visual Studio .NET to complete this change. The program might take a few minutes to restart as it changes which collections of help topics can be viewed in the Table of Contents, the Index, and in Search results lists.
