Searching Across Dialog Boxes

OverviewHow Do I

While using the , you can use the Find command to search for labels for static text controls, multiple instances of the same word across dialog boxes, or to find a dialog box in a long list. The Find command helps when you need to make changes in dialog boxes, or when you need to check consistency, or when you can remember the contents of a dialog but not its ID. You can also search for control or dialog IDs, if you remember the ID but not the contents.

To find control labels or IDs

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Find.

  2. In the Find what box, select a previous search string from the drop-down list, type the label or ID you want to find, or type a regular expression to match a pattern.

Tip   Click the button to the right of the Find what box to display a list of regular search expressions. When you select an expression from this list, it is substituted as the search text in the Find what box. If you use regular expressions, be sure the Regular expression check box is selected.

  1. Select any of the Find options.

  2. Click Find Next.
