* (Multiply)

SQL Server 2000

Multiplies two expressions (an arithmetic multiplication operator).

Syntax
expression * expression
Arguments
expression
Is any valid expression in Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Windows® CE Edition (SQL Server CE) of any of the data types of the numeric data type category, except the datetime data type.
Result Types

Returns the data type of the argument with the higher precedence.

Examples

The following example determines the cost of a customer order by multiplying the quantity ordered by the unit price from the Order Details table in the Northwind database.

SELECT UnitPrice * Quantity AS "Total Cost" FROM "Order Details" WHERE ProductID = '11' AND OrderID = '10248'

This is the result set:

Total Cost
----------
168
