Introduction to XML Expansion Pack Collections [Office 2003 SDK Documentation]

An XML expansion pack collection is a feature in Microsoft® Office 2003 that allows developers to place XML expansion pack references in a single location. If this location is widely accessible, such as over a network share or a Web server, a user's computer can be instructed to check this location for XML expansion pack downloads every time a file with XML markup is opened in Office.

An XML expansion pack collection is an XML file that adheres to the XML Expansion Pack Manifest Schema and contains information regarding all known namespace and XML expansion pack manifest pairs.

Because the XML Expansion Pack Manifest Schema supports case sensitivity for namespaces, the recommended method for deploying a manifest collection is by using a group policy or Microsoft Systems Management Server. For more information, see Using XML Expansion Pack Collections.
