Issues Updated in SP 1

The following is a list of programmatic issues fixed in Outlook 2003 SP 1.

E-mail messages that are based on an organizational form do not appear correctly in Outlook in Cached Exchange Mode

An e-mail message that was created from an organizational form may not appear as expected when Outlook is in Cached Exchange Mode. Additionally, your connection to the e-mail server is lost.

The GoToDate method with late binding causes Outlook to quit unexpectedly

When you use the GoToDate method with late binding in a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macro, Outlook may quit unexpectedly, and you receive the following error message:

Run-time error: Method 'GotoDate' of object 'View' failed.

Cannot create a filtered view for a calendar

If you programmatically create a filtered view for a calendar that uses the olCalendarView parameter, the view is created, but the filter is not created. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 830003: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: December 17, 2003.

Cannot open attachment with a custom form

When you open an attached item in an e-mail message that contains a custom form with the code

Item.Open = False

you may receive the following error message:

Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you use Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor, you may receive the following error message:

This object was created in Outlook. This application is not available to open this object. Make sure the application is properly installed and that it has not been deleted, moved, or renamed.

For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 830003: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: December 17, 2003.

Subject text in a custom form is truncated

When you create a custom form in Outlook, the text in the Subject box may be truncated to 255 characters. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 833986: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: January 17, 2004.

New signature is not added to a new e-mail message that uses a custom form

When you create a signature for new e-mail messages in Outlook, the signature is not added to your e-mail message when you use a custom form. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 833986: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: January 17, 2004.

Multiple signatures added on a custom multipage form in Outlook

In Outlook, signatures may appear unexpectedly on a custom form. If you use a signature when you create a message, reply to a message, or forward a message, a signature is added every time that you switch to a page that contains a message field in a custom multipage form.

This problem may appear after you install the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 833986: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: January 17, 2004. For more information about this problem, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 840393: Multiple signatures added on a custom multi-page form in Outlook 2003. The solution for this problem is also provided in a hotfix detailed in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article –838020: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: April 7, 2004.

Message control appears blank in a custom form with a MultiPage control

If you use a MultiPage control on a custom form in Outlook and you change tabs, the Message control may appear blank. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 833986: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: January 17, 2004.

Using Favorite Folders to access a public folder that uses a custom form results in problems

When you use Favorite Folders to access a public folder that uses a custom Outlook form, you may experience one of the following problems:

  • Every time you open an item in the folder, a message briefly appears. The message states that a custom form is being installed.
  • When you open a new instance of the form, you receive the following error message:

The object could not be found.

  • When you open multiple items in a folder, Outlook stops responding.

For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 831586: You may experience problems when you open a custom form by using the Favorites folder in Outlook 2003. The solution for this issue is also provided in a hotfix detailed in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 833856: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: January 20, 2004.

MapiReadMail returns a message ID that cannot be used

When you programmatically enumerate the Inbox using the MAPI MapiReadMail function, the szMsgId parameter may be returned. However, the szMsgId parameter cannot be used by the MAPI MapiReadMail function. The solution for this issue is also provided in two hotfixes detailed in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 833856: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: January 20, 2004 and Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 834714: Description of the German version of Outlook 2003 hotfix package: January 29, 2004.

Buttons on the IME toolbar may not work in a custom combo box control

If the insertion point is located in a custom combo box control on a command bar in Outlook, some buttons on the Input Method Editor (IME) toolbar may not be available. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 835210: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: March 2, 2004.

Cannot use a custom form to open an item returned by Find

If you open an item that you found by using Find in Outlook, the item does not open using your custom form. If you open the item directly without using Find, the item opens using your custom form. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 835210: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: March 2, 2004.

Attachments.Count returns an incorrect number of attachments

If you attach a Rich Text Format (RTF) message to a new e-mail message and move the attached RTF message, when you programmatically use the Attachments.Count property to return the number of attachments that are contained in the e-mail message, the number that is returned incorrectly includes the number of times that the attached message was moved. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 837019: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: March 17, 2004.

Word document embedded in a custom form appears blank

When you use a custom form that contains an embedded Microsoft Word document in Outlook, the body of the custom form may appear blank. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 838020: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: April 7, 2004.

You receive the "Object could not be found" error message when you try to create a new instance of a custom form in Favorite Folders

If you create a folder in a public folder to store items such as contacts or appointments and you create a custom form to use as the default form, you may find that you cannot create an instance of the custom form after you add the folder to Favorite Folders. For example, when you try to create a contact or an appointment from the folder that you added to Favorite Folders, you receive the following error message:

The object could not be found.

Additionally, Outlook may stop responding.

For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 834716: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: May 20, 2004.

Outlook stops responding when you open a form

When you open a form in Outlook, Outlook may stop responding. This problem may occur if the Outlook forms cache already contains five folders for the message class that is associated with the form. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 834716: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: May 20, 2004.

Outlook stops responding when you open a custom form

When you try to open a custom form after you add the ForceFormReload registry entry to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook

Outlook may stop responding in certain situations. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 834716: Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: May 20, 2004.

For information about other issues fixed in Outlook by the Office 2003 SP 1 release, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 872839: Issues that are fixed in Outlook 2003 by Office 2003 Service Pack 1.
