Creating an External Default Workflow Process

An external workflow process (*.wfd or *.wef) is a workflow process definition stored outside of the current Exchange folder but still on the same Exchange Server. In some rare cases, you might want to designate an external workflow process as the default workflow process for your folder. Using an external workflow process makes it possible for you to utilize the same default workflow process in multiple workflow-enabled folders.
Rules for creating an external default workflow process
- The workflow process definition must have been created by the Workflow Designer for Exchange Server.
- The process definition must be stored in an Exchange folder to which your Exchange Workflow Event Sink account has access.
To specify the use of an external default workflow process
From the Solution Explorer, select the project, right-click to display the context menu, and then select Properties.
In the Default Workflow Process text box, specify the location of the external default workflow process. Use the … button to search for the workflow process, or enter the URL. The syntax is as follows:
http://<Server Name>/Public/<Folder Name>/<*WorkflowProcess.*wfd>
Then, the URL is validated to make sure you have read permissions on the designated folder and that the folder and workflow process exist.
**Note **The workflow process must reside on the same server as the folder.
Click OK.
**Note **All properties appear and are editable in the Property pages and in the Properties Grid. In the Properties Grid, the check boxes are represented as Boolean (True/False) drop-down boxes, and the default workflow process is a text box.
