Visio 2002 PIA

The Microsoft® Visio® 2002 PIA is now available as part of the Microsoft Office XP Primary Interop Assemblies Web download. The Visio 2002 PIA allows developers to create Microsoft .NET Framework managed code solutions that integrate with Visio 2002, which is a Component Object Model (COM)-based application.

It is strongly recommended that managed code developers use the Visio 2002 PIA available in the Office XP PIA Web download for interoperability with Visio 2002. The Visio 2002 PIA (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Visio.dll) in the Office XP PIA Web download has a different name and namespace than the Visio 2002 SDK PIA (Microsoft.Visio.Interop.dll), as well as several important bug fixes and updates. In addition, the Visio 2002 PIA in the Office XP PIA Web download is installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). For more information about the updates in the Visio 2002 PIA, refer to Office XP Primary Interop Assemblies Known Issues.

If you have developed a managed code application using the Visio 2002 SDK PIA, you should update your application to use the Visio 2002 PIA from the Office XP PIA Web download. All managed code components that share Visio objects must use the same Visio 2002 PIA. The Visio 2002 PIA object types in the Office XP PIA Web download are not compatible with the object types in the Visio 2002 SDK PIA or with any other interop assemblies based on the Visio type library.
