Bin Code Field, Sales Line Table

Specifies the bin from where items on the sales order line are taken from when they are shipped.

If the location is set up to use bins, then the value in this field is filled automatically with the code of the bin where the item is available. This is typically also the default bin. For more information, see Default Bin Selection. You can change the value by choosing the field and selecting from available content in the Bin Contents List window.

Note

Because the Bin Contents List window shows an item’s bin content, the Bin Code field can only contain the code of a bin where the item is available. This guarantees that the warehouse worker can find and ship the item. However, if the item on the sales order line must be assembled before it can be shipped, then the Bin Contents List field can contain the code of a bin that is empty. For more information, see the “Assemble to order” section in this topic.

Warehouse Handling

If the location is set up for directed put-away and pick, then you cannot change the contents of the Bin Code field because the shipment flow is defined by warehouse pick routines. For more information, see How to: Pick Items for Warehouse Shipment.

For all location setups other than directed put-away and pick, you can change the contents of the Bin Code field. The value is copied to the inventory pick document to allow sales order processors to define the bin where the sold item must be picked from.

Assemble to Order

You can define an assembly output flow by setting up two different bin codes on the location card to define the default location where shippable items on sales orders are placed when they have been supplied by assembly. Default bin codes can be inserted in the Bin Code field on sales order lines as follows.

Bin code on location card Description

Asm.-to-Order Shpt. Bin Code

  • Used when the item is set up with Assemble-to-Order in the Replenishment System field.

  • Used when the Qty. to Assemble to Order field on the sales order line is specified.

This setup field is typically used for locations where items are assembled to order. For more information, see How to: Sell Items Assembled to Order.

From-Assembly Bin Code

Used when the Asm.-to-Order Shpt. Bin Code field is blank.

This setup field is typically used for locations where items are assembled to stock. For more information, see How to: Assemble Items.

If an assembly output flow is not set up on the location card, then the Bin Code field is specified according to where the item exists. You can look up and select from bin contents in the Bin Content window.

If the sales line quantity must be assembled before it can be shipped, then special logic applies to how the inventory pick line or lines and warehouse shipment lines are created for that quantity. For more information, see “Handling Assemble-to-Order Items in Inventory Picks” in Inventory Pick or “Handling Assemble-to-Order Items in Warehouse Shipments” in Warehouse Shipment.

For information about combining assemble-to-stock items with assemble-to-order items on sales orders, see How to: Sell Inventory Quantities in Assemble-to-Order Flows.
