Shortcut Dimension 7 Code Field, General Ledger Setup Table

Specifies the code for Shortcut Dimension 7. You must select the Shortcut Dimension 7 code from one of the dimension codes you have already set up in the Dimension table. You can choose a new dimension code for Shortcut Dimension 7 as frequently as you wish.

Shortcut dimensions offer a fast and convenient way for you to enter dimension information directly on the line in journals and in sales and purchase documents. For example, in a purchase document, on the Lines FastTab, you can click Actions, Choose Columns, and select the shortcut dimensions that you use frequently in that particular document. To enter dimensions information for dimensions not selected as shortcuts, the user must use a separate dimensions window.

You must consider how shortcut dimensions will be used in your company. You can use shortcut dimensions purely for the most frequently used dimensions. However, you can also combine the use of shortcut dimensions with the use of default dimensions. For a frequently used dimension, you may have defined a default value that is rarely altered or cannot be altered by the user. Because the dimension value is rarely altered, there will be little benefit for the user if the dimension is chosen as a shortcut dimension. You may therefore wish to choose as shortcut dimensions the dimensions you alter and use frequently.

You can analyze information for shortcut dimension entries, as well as all other dimensions, using the analysis view function.

Note that the program will automatically rename all Shortcut Dimension 7 fields with the code caption you have entered for this dimension in the Dimension table.
