1.7 Versioning and Capability Negotiation

This specification covers versioning issues in the following areas:

  • Supported transports: This protocol can be implemented on top of TCP as specified by the DHCP Failover Protocol (see [IETF-DHCPFOP-12] section 8).

  • Protocol versions: The DHCP Failover Protocol supports a protocol-version option ([IETF-DHCPFOP-12] section 12.20) which is only sent in the CONNECT and CONNECT-ACK messages. The protocol described in this document uses the same value for the protocol-version option specified in [IETF-DHCPFOP-12].

  • Capability negotiation: The protocol described in this document does not support negotiation of the options or messages that it sends or receives.
