HTML Div Controls

Three controls based on the HTML DIV element are available on the HTML tab of the Toolbox:

  • Flow Layout Panel control. Provides an area for flow (top to bottom) layout within a page configured for grid (x and y) layout.
  • Grid Layout Panel control. Provides an area for grid layout (x and y) within a page configured for flow (top to bottom) layout.
Note   For details about flow and grid layout, see Positioning HTML Elements in Design View.
  • Label control
Note   Dynamic HTML also includes an element named LABEL; it works only in Internet Explorer.

For a complete list of elements, see HTML Elements.

HTML controls added to an HTML page in Visual Studio are simply HTML elements with certain attributes already set.

The same is true for HTML controls added to a Web Forms (.aspx) page. By default, HTML elements on a Web Forms page are not available to the server; they are treated as opaque text that is passed through to the browser. However, by converting HTML elements to HTML server controls, you expose them as elements you can program in server-based code. For an overview of how HTML elements can be exposed to the server so that you can program them, see Introduction to ASP.NET Server Controls. For a list of these controls see HTML Server Controls.
