Forms based authentication is used in environments where other authentication mechanisms (basic, digest, SPNEGO-based Kerberos, and NTLM HTTP Authentication), as described in [RFC4559] and [RFC2617], are not available. Additionally, the protocol client and protocol server must both support forms based authentication.
