2.1 Transport

This protocol can use either UDP or TCP running on either IPv4 or IPv6<1> as a transport protocol. All message formats are specified as a UDP datagram and do not require any additional framing when sent over UDP. Transport over TCP requires additional framing, as specified in section 2.1.1 and section 2.1.4.
