The Proximity Service Discovery Protocol extends the IEEE802.11 standard, whose conventions are applied as specified in [IEEE802.11-2007]. The Proximity Service Discovery Protocol introduces a specific use for one of that protocol's reserved information element types, and it defines additional MAC layer abstract service primitives for managing the configuration, transmission, and receipt of these new information elements.
