How to: Switch Databases from the Command Line

You can change databases quickly by setting the SSDIR environment variable. This procedure assumes that you have already connected to a database on the command line. For more about setting environment variables, see Setting Database Options.

To switch databases:

  1. Open an MS-DOS command shell.

  2. Type "set ssdir=<\\server\share>", where \\server\share is the UNC path to the directory containing the Srcsafe.ini file for your database. Alternatively, you can type "set ssdir=<drive>:<\foldername>", specifying the local path to the Srcsafe.ini file on your local computer.

Note

Do not put a space between the equals sign and the location of the Visual SourceSafe installation.
