XmlReader.Item Property (String)

When overridden in a derived class, gets the value of the attribute with the specified Name.

JScript supports the use of indexed properties, but not the declaration of new ones.

Parameters

name

The qualified name of the attribute.

Property Value

The value of the specified attribute. If the attribute is not found, a null reference (Nothing in Visual Basic) is returned.

This property does not move the reader.

If the reader is positioned on a DocumentType node, this method can be used to get the PUBLIC and SYSTEM literals, for example, reader["PUBLIC"]

The following example gets the value of the ISBN attribute.

reader.ReadToDescendant("book");
string isbn =reader["ISBN"];
Console.WriteLine("The ISBN value: " + isbn);
